Gali Girls Children’s Book Series to Debut in December

TEANECK, N.J. (Nov. 14, 2005) – A new children’s book series that weaves together Jewish history, Jewish values, fascinating characters, and unexpected adventures will make its debut this December, Gali Girls Inc. founder Aliza Stein announced today.

The first book, Miriam’s Journey, follows 10-year-old Miriam Bloom and her family as they flee Russia for a better life in America.

Miriam’s Journey: Discovering a New World

Juvenile Historical Fiction / Judaica

$12.00 ISBN: 0-9773673-0-4

“This is not your ordinary immigration story,” said author Robin K. Levinson of Hamilton, New Jersey, who based the book on her grandmother’s real life experiences. “The story involves a turn of events that threatens Miriam’s future in a way she never could have imagined.”

Although the main characters are Jewish, Levinson expressed confidence that her series will appeal to readers from all religious backgrounds and ethnicities. “Parents will also appreciate these books because the Jewish values I emphasize, such as kindness, respect, charity, and honesty, are universal values.”

Future Gali Girls books will be set in 12th century China, Colonial America, Ethiopia, and other well-known and little-known times and places in Jewish history. Each book will be linked to an 18-inch doll, or doll accessory, representing the main character.

Introduced last year, each Gali Girls Jewish doll comes with her own Hebrew and English name birth certificate, Magen-David bracelet (for doll and owner), and a 10-piece wooden toy Shabbat kit, including candles, challah, and wine cup. Four different dolls come with blond, brown or red hair.

“Gali Girl dolls have inspired Jewish girls across the country and across the globe to develop a spirited interest in lighting Friday night Shabbat candles,” Stein said. “The Gali Girls Jewish History Series takes the next step toward creating a connection between the contemporary Jewish girl and her rich, wondrous heritage.”
